Program Info

The in-person certificate program is a combination of lecture and laboratory sessions over 1.5 days, following the theme of CAETA’s The 14 Essential Components of Companion Animal Euthanasia. Students will be provided proceedings, a certificate of completion, seal of excellence for marketing materials, and permanent access to the CAETA online library. Testing takes place online through our online testing platform. The test can be taken onsite after the completion of the program or taken within 1 week offsite. A passing grade of 80% is required to receive the certificate.

Our programs are offered multiple times a year.  We limit each onsite training session to 50 participants to promote a more intimate learning experience. Everyone will have time to share case successes and challenges.

Our instructors are leaders in the field of end-of-life care. Combined, we have been training euthanasia techniques to veterinarians, technicians, and veterinary students for over 15 years. We have authored books on end-of-life care and bring real-world personal and professional perspectives to the coursework.

“I greatly appreciated the hands-on lab as it provided an opportunity to practice all the techniques. Also glad to learn details about paw prints, body handling, etc, because these details are so very important. Having one hour blocks was fantastic. Dr. Cooney was so nurturing to all of us. I have never, in 30 years of post-graduate CE courses, had a conference be so enjoyable. I wish all CE could follow this model. Thank you to the entire CAETA team.”

“Thank you for creating CAETA. Euthanasia is such an important part of our practice, and I'm glad someone is out there educating about how to make it peaceful. I learned so much in such a short time and was inspired by so many wonderful people I met along the way. I'm excited to use these skills as a part of my practice.”

“Dr. Cooney's engaging dysthanasia webinar taught me a lot about how to communicate with clients before, during, and after a challenging euthanasia. There was also education about patient care and comfort. I work in emergency medicine, so unfortunately the euthanasia process is not always smooth. This was an excellent way to bolster my skill set regarding both client and patient support during euthanasia.”
