For CAETA Graduates

Additional educational courses are offered to all graduates of our main 10-hour CAETA program. This is a perk for those dedicated professionals wanting to learn advanced euthanasia-related topics that fall outside the scope of our Master program. Please see the following list of available modules:

Equine Euthanasia

Instructor - David Shuey, LVT

Horses and other equids are companion animals. They are loved and revered in our society and deserve the same attention given to their end-of-life story as all other beloved pets. Equine euthanasia is considered by many to be the most challenging type of euthanasia there is; their size, strength, and the nature of the bond around them makes it necessary for us to increase our skillset and ensure a safe and gentle death each time. Written by David Shuey, LVT, CHPT, a long-standing advocate for ideal standards in equine euthanasia, this module will explore many parameters around equine euthanasia; safety, proper techniques, restraint/handling, maintaining the bond, and more. Join us for an enlightening session sure to make you better prepared to work with these majestic creatures. 2 hours of RACE-approved CE provided for veterinarians and veterinary technicians.

Compassion Fatigue

Instructor - Julie Squires

Compassion fatigue is a physical state of health different from burnout. It has its own set of rules and those of us providing euthanasia are susceptible to it. Anyone who cares for those going through a loss are. Our instructor, Julie Squires is a Compassion Fatigue Specialist who brings a unique perspective and approach to support the sustained energy and passion of those that work with animals in the emotionally challenging fields of veterinary medicine, animal welfare and lab animal research. Join us for this one hour module; learning more about compassion fatigue and how you can take charge of your mental health in the right ways. 1 hour of RACE-approved CE provided for veterinarians and veterinary technicians.

Companion Livestock Euthanasia

Instructor - Dr. Jan Shearer

All species deserve a gentle passing, regardless of the inherent challenges that present due to size, behavior, and level of bondedness to humans. There is always a way to ensure an animal is cared for that aligns with CAETA’s 14 Essential Components. Dr. Jan Shearer will be presenting this 1 hour module on Livestock Euthanasia. He is a well-respected leader in livestock animal welfare and expert in the euthanasia of cattle and other small ruminants. This module focuses on the use of physical euthanasia methods.
