Leading Your Day with Heart: Navigating Management Challenges
Navigating unforeseen challenges in your daily life can be difficult. But when a practice manager or leader on the veterinary team leans in with heart, compassion, and their learned skills of active listening and achieving goals, these difficult days may be less tumultuous. In this course, we will review how to identify the traits of a leader, learn how to lead through example, and understand that leading from the heart is a proactive, supportive, and worthwhile approach.

11:00 AM-12:00 PM
Juggling Parenting and Career in VetMed: Compassion Reigns
Nothing will change your life more than becoming a parent. “Anticipate becoming 100% more organized and 200% more flexible” are sentiments often provided when new parents ask for advice. What does this mean for veterinary professionals and their managers? Conversations during this class will include shifts in career priorities, time, flexibility, and growing a career while raising children. We will talk about trials, tribulations, possible solutions, and review one veterinary technician’s career path while raising children as a way for managers to retain great team members.

1:30 PM-2:30 PM
Pillars of Wellbeing for Managers: Exemplifying a Healthy Lifestyle
As a team manager and leader, your team looks to you for exemplifying pillars of health and wellbeing. In this course, we will review the eight pillars in wellbeing. We will share examples of what is working and not working, helping to broaden ideas and examples in designing a healthy lifestyle. Together we will outline small steps, stacking the habits, and supporting each other in personal and professional wellbeing.

2:40 PM-3:40 PM
Emotionally Intelligent Euthanasia
Emotionally Intelligent Euthanasia (EIE) is born out of the idea that maintaining personal control of emotions are beneficial to one’s mental health and well-being. Managers will receive insight into ways to support their team in navigating what can be perceived as an emotionally taxing service like euthanasia. It is useful to understand what veterinary teams are feeling during euthanasia and what others around them are experiencing.

4:00 PM-5:15 PM
Building Euthanasia Manuals for the Team: Bringing It All Together
Euthanasia is the one procedure with no do-overs and that leads to significant moral distress when handled poorly. Let’s give attention to it and build something that will have lasting effects for patients, clients, and teams. A recent study showed that most hospitals don’t have a manual for euthanasia even though it’s one of the most common procedures. A euthanasia manual will include medical protocols, policies around convenience or economic euthanasia, how to handle dysthanasia, and much more.
