We all aim for euthanasia procedures to be peaceful and dignified. But when a ‘good death’ doesn’t happen—when the quality of a pet’s final moments is compromised—we face what’s known as a dysthanasia. In this session, we’ll explore how both pet owners and veterinarians define a ‘good death’ and discuss what factors contribute to or detract from that experience. Together, we’ll look at ways to address dysthanasias when they arise to support the mental well-being of both families and veterinary teams. We’ll also provide time to discuss difficult cases, offering a space for shared learning and growth.
